Welcome to the second issue of IF HUB 2023. We hope that all readers have achieved their targeted milestones as we move towards the final quarter of the year. The Islamic finance industry has witnessed several key developments over the past eight months, particularly in light of the Malaysia MADANI framework introduced by the Unity Government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
With the theme “Reinvigorating Maqasid al-Shariah in the Islamic Economy: Reality and Challenges,” the In Person Column features Professor Dr Aishath Muneeza, who explores how improved management and stronger governance within Islamic social finance institutions can help realise maqasid al-Shariah and enhance social welfare.
Meanwhile, the INCEIF Students & Alumni Column presents Saajid Sabry, who emphasises the importance of adhering to and implementing maqasid al-Shariah in fintech solutions. In addition, the Practitioner’s Insights Column by Dr Yussuf Adam Al Badani offers a broader perspective by examining criticisms of current Islamic economics practices and proposing solutions to address existing shortcomings.
On behalf of the editorial team and INCEIF University, we extend our congratulations to Datuk Shaik Abdul Rasheed Abdul Ghaffour on his appointment as the new Governor of Bank Negara Malaysia. We also warmly welcome the Adjunct Professors and Professors of Practice who have recently joined our academic community to strengthen its teaching and research capacity.
Finally, we commend the INCEIF teams for successfully carrying out various initiatives, including events, training programmes, and action-based learning projects. MUZAKARAH2023, held in Singapore, marked another significant milestone with the participation of over 200 participants from the ASEAN region.
