Once again as the editor of the Bulletin, I welcome all the readers and contributors with warmth and gratitude. The theme for this Bulletin is ethical perspectives on the practices of Islamic banking and finance. As ethics is considered a key for Islamic banking practices, there is a need to define its scope from an Islamic perspective. Thus there is an attempt to explore the broad spectrum of the issue by discussing “Unethical Profit-Making and Islamic Banking Practices: A Short Appraisal” in the Islamic banking sector report and “Islamic Capital Market: An Ethical and Moral Perspective” in the Islamic capital market report. The takaful sector report compares ethical conventional insurance with takaful. This time, the Bulletin’s interview section focuses on a young and bright Islamic finance activist from Singapore, who through the company Amanah Assets Pte. Ltd. has managed to successfully collaborate with ISRA to organize the Muzakarah Cendekiawan Syariah Nusantara (MCSN) that was held in Singapore for the first time ever. The Bulletin also contains a Student Report, where ISRA internship students are encouraged to harness their Islamic finance knowledge through their write-up in the Bulletin. Lastly, our cover story features our mega-event for this year, the Muzakarah Cendekiawan Syariah Nusantara (MCSN), where a memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed between Amanah Assets Pte. Ltd. and ISRA Consultancy Sdn. Bhd. (ICSB).
We hope the readers will enjoy and gain valuable input from the Bulletin. Your feedback and suggestions are most welcome. May we all strive to be better Muslims by practicing Islamic finance according to the Shari’ah.
