Charting Progress Together: Malaysia’s Islamic Finance Through the Years — A Compilation of Published Articles by RHB Islamic

Charting Progress Together: Malaysia’s Islamic Finance Through the Years is the first volume in the RHB Islamic Insightseries—an anthology of selected practitioner articles written by professionals of RHB Islamic. The articles were originally published across various platforms, including Islamic Finance News (IFN), between 2012 and 2021. Presented in clear and accessible language, this publication offers timely, Malaysia-centric perspectives on the evolving landscape of Islamic banking and finance, bridging theoretical principles with real-world industry applications.

Reflecting a significant phase in Malaysia’s Islamic finance development, the compilation explores critical issues and innovations shaping the industry, including Islamic home financing structures, Sharīʿah documentation and contracting, commodity murābaḥah platforms, Islamic factoring, mushārakah standards, recovery practices, and the treatment of Sharīʿah non-compliant income and collateral. It also examines emerging themes, including Sharīʿah risk management in capital markets, fintech integration, and sectoral expansion opportunities such as Islamic investment in the hotel industry.

Structured into four sections—Islamic Banking and Finance, Investment and Islamic Capital Market, Sharīʿah Governance, and Islamic Social Finance—this volume further highlights the industry’s growing emphasis on sustainability and social impact through discussions on cash waqf, zakāt distribution, and Value-based Intermediation (VBI).

Published in collaboration with ISRA Institute of INCEIF University, this anthology represents RHB Islamic’s commitment to thought leadership, knowledge-sharing, and the advancement of the Islamic finance ecosystem. It is an invaluable reference for practitioners, Sharīʿah scholars, regulators, policymakers, students, and researchers seeking practical insights into the dynamic progress of Islamic finance in Malaysia.
