I once again warmly welcome all readers and contributors with great appreciation. As this is our final issue for the year 2012, we have chosen to highlight a topic that is very close to our hearts and has been extensively discussed throughout the year – namely, the importance of adopting risk sharing in Islamic finance. This is intended to help pave the way for the next phase of development in the Islamic finance industry. We have sought to examine this issue from a broad perspective by discussing risk sharing in the contexts of Islamic banking, takaful, and legal frameworks. An important resolution issued by the International Islamic Fiqh Academy on Joint Silent-Partnership (Qirad or Mudarabah) in Financial Institutions (Investment Accounts) is also included to provide juristic insight into this subject. The interview section similarly focuses on this theme. Our cover story highlights the various events organised by ISRA throughout the year, which have served as key platforms for discussing this important issue, along with their successful outcomes.
We hope readers will find this Bulletin both enjoyable and insightful, and we welcome your feedback and suggestions. Finally, we would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very happy New Year. May the coming year bring greater opportunities and positivity into our lives, and may we strive to be better Muslims by practising Islamic finance in accordance with the Shari‘ah.
