Shariah Assessment on the Revenue Components of Cinema Business Activities

The Shariah Advisory Council of the Securities Commission Malaysia (SAC), in a series of meetings, has deliberated comprehensively on the Shariah assessment of cinema business activities. At its 296th meeting held on 13 November 2025, the SAC resolved on the treatment of Shariah non-compliant (SNC) income generated from the following revenue components of cinema business activities:
1. Sale of movie tickets;
2. Sale of food and beverages at cinema counters (concessions) without halal certification or sourced from non halal-certified suppliers; and
3. Screen advertising related to SNC activities.
