Bulletin (Vol. 10 / Dec 2011)

As the new editor of this Bulletin, I welcome all the readers and contributors with warmth and appreciation. The Bulletin will continue as before but with a few minor amendments. First, it will now be presented with a lighter and fresher perspective. In each issue, we propose to include two articles related to Islamic banking, the Islamic capital market, legal issues, or takaful. The Bulletin will continue to reproduce fatwas along with their translations, and efforts will be made to select fatwas that are relevant to the theme of the Bulletin whenever possible. We will also provide ISRA staff updates and share news about ongoing and upcoming events and activities at ISRA. The Bulletin’s interview section will, for the next few issues, focus on the younger generation of individuals involved in Islamic finance, in order to provide a platform for the expression of ideas and viewpoints from less heard voices. The aim is to make the Bulletin a dynamic forum; therefore, ideas and comments are most welcome.

In this issue, the Bulletin will also examine the crisis in Libya and the potential role of Islamic finance in rebuilding the country and stimulating its economic growth following recent destruction. The Bulletin will further provide special information on ISRA’s next event, the Sixth ISSF. In the next issue, we hope to focus on a very interesting topic of discussion, namely women in Islamic finance. Suggestions and input will be most welcome.
