ISRA ISLAMIC FINANCE SPACE (IIFS) Volume 3

As the editor of the ISRA Islamic Finance Space Magazine, ‘ISRA Islamic Finance Space’ (IIFS), I once again welcome all readers with warmth and appreciation. IIFS is published twice a year, and this will be our first issue for the second year publication. The publication of IIFS is yet another feather in ISRA’s cap and further establishes our strong standing within the industry. Various areas of Islamic finance and economics have been further explored in this issue of IIFS through columns such as ‘Food for Thought’, ‘Kalamuna’, ‘Global Insight’, and ‘Youth Corner’. Our Kalamuna column offers a slightly different look for this issue. This is because apart from the usual Arabic report, IIFS also have fatwa resolutions from Association of Islamic Banking Institutions Malaysia (AIBIM) for this issue. Also in this issue, IIFS was fortunate enough to interview Ms. Kohe Hasan, a legal Partner in an American law firm named Reed Smith on her views and opinions on Islamic finance. Besides, IIFS was also privileged to have a young and upcoming Islamic finance industry expert sharing his views on the reclassification of Islamic banking deposits under the Malaysia Islamic Financial Services Act 2013 (IFSA 2013). He is Mr. Syed Faiq Najeeb, a Member of the Secretariat – Technical and Research Department of Islamic Financial Services Board (IFSB). Apart from the above, there are also other interesting columns in IIFS which include among others ‘ISRA Events’, ‘Islamic Finance for Dummies’, and ‘ISRA Publication’.

Last but not least, special thank you to all the sponsors who have been key in the successful publication of IIFS. May this magazine play an important role in bringing all the Islamic finance experts together through the expression of their views and knowledge in the various columns of the magazine, for the sake of the betterment of the ummah. Finally, we hope the readers will enjoy and gain valuable input from IIFS. Your feedback and suggestions are most welcome.
